Why does BCAH exist?
BCAH was started in 2021 by a group of volunteer Belmont parents as a response to the rising anti-Asian incidents occurring around the nation.
Around the same time, the results of a study were published in various news outlets including NPR and Fortune magazine showing that 42% of Americans could not name a single famous Asian American, even though the then-Vice President of the United States was one.
This lack of awareness can lead to the perpetual thought of Asian Americans as foreign and fuel anti-Asian messaging such as, “Go back home.” Asian-American children who do not know the positive impact of the AAPI community may question whether they are Americans and where they belong.
This group’s mission is to help rectify this situation by showcasing in Belmont the positive impact of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. And we need your help! Please consider volunteering, donating, or joining our team.
